I want to dress up as a wizard for Halloween.

Bryan thinks he’s a wizard with magical powers.

influential: 有影响力的

having a lot of influence on someone or something

Tim wants to work for a bigger and more influential newspaper.
Tim想为一家更大，更具影响力的报社工作。

Oprah Winfrey is one of the most influential women in the world.
Oprah Winfrey 是全世界最具影响力的女性之一。

Ophra Winfrey is an American media executive, actress, talk show host, television producer and philanthropist.

get what one deserves: 活该；得到了应得的

(derogated) to be correctly punished for bad behavior

Don’t feel sorry for him. He got what he deserves.
不要为他感到难过。他罪有应得。

Many people think he was treated unfairly, but I think he got what he deserves.
许多人认为他受到了不公平的对待，但我觉得他是活该。

help someone out: 帮助…摆脱…困境

assist another person with something

Can you help me out with fixing my computer?

Peter asked his friend to help him out with his homework.

fictional character: 虚构的人物

an imaginary person that only exists in a book

She dressed up as her favorite fictional character for Halloween.
万圣节的时候，她把自己打扮成了她最喜欢的虚拟人物。

Some people think Tarzan was a real person, but I’m sure he was only a fictional character.
有人认为（人猿）泰山确有其人，但我确信他只是个虚构的人物。

outstanding performance: 出色的表现（表演）

impressive show or presentation

The audience stood up and clapped for her outstanding performance.
观众们起立，对她出色的表演报以掌声。

Many people went up to Jake and thanked him for his outstanding performance.
许多人走向Jake，感谢他出色的表演。

Grammar

the simple past tense 一般过去时

表示过去某个时间里发生的动作或状态，常伴随着表示过去的时间状语，例如：yesterday, last night, in+ (过去的年份)，two days ago, before 等。
表示过去习惯性，经常性的动作，行为，常和 often，always 等表示频率的时间状语连用。例如：He always give an outstanding performance.
表示过去主语所具备的能力和性格。基本结构：主语+was/were/行为动词过去式 + 其他成分。及其相应的否定，疑问句式。

The police stopped him on his way home last night.
I was angry because they were late.
They didn’t invite us to the party, so we didn’t go.
Did you have time to look at my proposal?
