集成式磁盘电子接口(IDE,也称为ATA1)是一个连接标准,它用于通用储存单元,比如硬盘上。它在1984年被Western DigitalCompaq Computer设计出来,同时命名为ST506。相当多的磁盘使用的是IDE接口。

AT Attachment(ATA)IDE的超集。IDE也被称为ATA-1

Fast-IDE(快速IDE)是IDE2(也被称为Fast ATA),Enhanced IDE(强化IDE(EIDE)ATA-3。它提供对更大的磁盘的支持(根据LBA的标准,大于8.4GB),更多的磁盘(以前是2个,现在支持到4个)和对其他通用储存单元如磁带机和光盘机的支持。UDMA/33(也称为UltraDMA/33)是ATA-4,它提供更快的(更友好的CPU)传输模式。而之前的ATA/IDE标准使用的PIO(可编程处理器输入输出)相比起DMA来就慢了很多。

ATA包接口(ATA Packet Interface ATAPI)是一个使用EDIE磁带和CD-ROM驱动器的协议,有点类似于SCSI的协议。

SMART IDE(自监视、分析和报告技术)通过检测硬件的失败条件(温度、访问时间或者类似的)来防止数据损失和磁盘损坏。从1995年起制作的磁盘很多都遵守这个标准。内核本身不管这些,但是有很多用户程序比如smart可以从磁盘驱动中队列化SMART参数。

I2O(智能IO)设备

使用专门的I/O处理器负责中断处理/缓冲存取/数据传输等烦琐任务以减少CPU占用,一般的主板上没这种东西。

I2O智能输入输出体系允许硬件驱动分成两个部分:一个是操作系统指定的模块OSM,一个是硬件指定模块HDMOSM可以与HDM的所有队列对话,同时HDM队列并不是OS的依赖。这样允许同样的HDM驱动使用不同的操作系统中,如果相关的OSM已经安装了的话。为保证这些可以工作,需要有一个I2O接口适配器卡。这张卡包含一个特别的I/O处理器(IOP),可以在CPU不需要应付I/O的情况下任然保持高速度。

PPP(点对点协议)是一个更新更好的SLIP协议。它实现与SLIP同样的目的:通过电话线(或者其他串行线)来传送网络信息。大多数的网络供应商提供的是PPP而不是SLIP。要使用PPP,还需要一个额外的软件,称为pppd。须确保软件版本能与最新的PPP协议对应。

实际上有两种PPP版本:一种是传统的PPP,通过异步线路传输,比如常规的电话线;另一种是同步PPP,它通过数码ISDN线路传输。

如果你想要通过电话线路或者其他的异步串行线路使用PPP,你需要在这选Y或者M,并在下面的选项PPP for async serial portsY。如果你要使用同步线路的PPP,那么在下面的选项Support synchronous PPPY
