prefer

prefer can be used as a verb, meaning “more like, would rather” usually with the following forms:

prefer + noun.
prefer + gerund
prefer + infinitive
prefer sb. to do sth.
prefer A to B (A and B are parallel structure that can be nouns or gerunds.)
prefer + that clause

— Would you like pork or fish?
— I’d prefer fish, thank you.
Do you prefer cooking at home or eating in a restaurant?
I prefer to spend the weekend at home.
Their mother prefers them to come back early.
She has always preferred making her own dresses to buying them in malls.
I prefer that someone else come with me.
