reminisce: 回忆，追忆

to talk or write about past experiences that you remember with pleasure
etymology: from Latin reminisci ‘remember’

My friends from college and I like to meet up once a year and reminisce about our college years.
我和大学同学们每年都聚一聚，回忆我们当年的大学时光。

Sometimes I like to look through my photos of when I was a child and reminisce.
有时候我会细细浏览自己小时候的照片，然后陷入回忆。

get through: 度过，通过

to survive a situation

I know this project won’t be easy, but we can get through it.
我知道这个项目不太好做，但我们会成功的。

The explorer was able to get through the dangerous forest without getting hurt.

school recital: 校园朗诵会

an event in school in which students recite something in front of others

I need to go to my son’s school recital this afternoon.

The children at the school recital were very excited to perform.

quite a challenge: 一个相当大的挑战

a very difficult challenge

Finishing the race was quite a challenge, but we were able to do it.
完成这项比赛是个极大的挑战，但我们有实力做到。

Learning a language in just one year is going to be quite a challenge.
仅用一年时间学一门语言会是一项极大的挑战。

can’t help but doing sth: 情不自禁做某事；忍不住做某事

used to say someone is unable to change their behavior or feelings, or to prevent themselves from doing something

I know I should save money right now, but I can’t help but buy new clothes.
我知道现在得开始攒钱了，但就是管不住自己买新衣服。

Lisa is on a diet, but sometimes she can’t help but eat chocolate cake.
Lisa在节食，但偶尔也忍不住吃巧克力蛋糕。

Grammar

‘What’ 引导名词从句

What 在复合句(compound sentence)，既可以指代人，也可以指代物。指代人时，相当于the person(s) that …；指代物时，相当于the thing(s) which。

需要说明的是，这种用法的what本身已包括先行词(antecedent )，前面无需再有先行词。也就是说，当前面有先行词时，视具体情况用that, which或者who；而前面没有先行词时，就要用what。

What引导的名词从句可以在句中作主语，宾语和表语。例如，

What you have done is unbelievable. (作主语)
I can’t help but reminisce about the past because of what you said. (作介词的宾语)
That’s what happened on my very first performance, too. (作表语)

示例，

What is done cannot be undone.
Never pretend to be what you are not.
That is what you want from us.
I don’t know what to tell you.
